Late Risk...

P.P.S.: Never sit up until three-thirty in the morning playing Risk with my husband and his foster brother. Just... don't. Not even if they beg. The latest you should stay up is midnight. No matter how many times they say, "No, really! You can still win!" You'll wake up and find yourself talking like a LOLcat. ("Grammer. I has it.")

Okay. Two-thirty in the morning is also too late to sit up playing Risk with my husband and his foster brother.

However, the ladies kicked butt. Yay feminine teamwork (and husbands who make silly mistakes)!

Of course, my brother-in-law grumbled that next time he'll be watching for that... and we'll be playing Fortress America instead.

(What the heck is Fortress America? Hmm....)

Cat of a Different Color... I Have A Contract!

Yup, that's two.

So, books two and three of the Halle Puma series have been accepted. I haven't started work on book four, although I have it plotted out in my head; I'll probably start on that when I get back from vacation in mid-June. Right now, my WIP is for the Menage and More anthology over at Samhain.

BTW, did I mention I'm once again doing the happy dance?

P.S.: Is it me, or am I starting to talk like a LOLCat?

Stubbornness.... He Has It.

Before I start, let me give you a little background info:

I have two beautiful boys whom I love very much. The eldest turns nine (NINE! OMG!) this month; the other turns forty-seven... er, four, in June.

They are know respectively as Rotten and Evil. (Don't worry, they know it's a joke; they giggle when I call them that. In fact, I accidentally called Rotten Evil once, and he corrected me.)

Dusty and I have been attempting to potty train Evil. He is remarkably resistant to threats, bribes, and attempts to park him on "da toilet". He's gone so far as to do the "cat about to be dumped in the tub" splaying of limbs to keep me from putting him on "da toilet". So I've been trying to reason with him.

Yeah. I know. It's been... fun.

Here's a sample of our conversations with Mr. Four-Going-On-Forty-Seven:

Mommy: "Baby, wanna pee in da toilet?"
Evil: "No!"
Mommy: "Baby, c'mon. Go pee in da toilet."
Evil (in that tone of voice three year olds reserve for really dumb parents): "No. Dia. Per."
Mommy (sighing): "Sweetheart, do you want to ride the school bus?"
Evil (eyes lighting up, because anything Rotten does has got to be cool): "Yeah!"
Mommy: "Do you want to go to school like (insert real name here)?"
Evil: "Yeah!"
Mommy (triumphantly): "Then you have to pee in da toilet!"
Evil (tilts head, thinks for a moment): "I drink from cup first."

He goes, gets a red plastic cup, puts some water in it, and drinks like a pro.

Evil: "Now I go to school?"
Mommy (sounding remarkably like a three year old): "No, baby. You have to pee in da toi. Let!"
Evil: "No. Dia. Per!"

My mom said my first mistake was making it a dialog instead of stripping him nekkid and parking his butt on "da toilet".

When was the last time you tried to put a forty-two pound angry octopus somewhere it didn't want to go?

I even tried taking his favorite stuffed animal, affectionately known as Monkey, and having it go potty a 'la Dr. Phil.

He put a diaper on it.

Feeling Better, and Funny Picture

I know I've complained a few times (cough lots cough) recently about the stupid Head Cold That Wouldn't Die (or HCTWD for short). Well, as of yesterday I'm definitely feeling better.

I went through some of my pictures looking for something totally unrelated to the HCTWD, and I found a picture that made me grin, considering how many of my friends and family have also been suffering the Dayquil Blues. Before I head off into Lala Land with a good book, I thought I'd share it with you. I found it on Lolcats, aka Icanhascheezburger:

New Contract!

I just got back the signed contract for Sweet Dreams, Simon and Becky's story. It's officially Book Two of the Halle Puma series.

I have a series.

Sweet Dreams is currently slated for an August release; wish me luck!

I Did A Dumb Thing...

...and got sick again.

I felt better. Really I did! So during the storms we had last weekend (stupid, stupid me) I went grocery shopping. I checked the forecast like a good little girl, and it was supposed to stop raining around three. So I went at three.

Sunny skies, white fluffy clouds. Ah, I missed being outside and, like, breathing without hacking up a lung.

Buy food, pay for food, head to front of store...

Black skies, rain driving at a forty-five degree angle and pelting me hard enough to hurt. And because it was seventy-eight degrees out, I'd left my coat and hat in the car.

I was soaked after moving five feet.

So for the last few days, I've been once again battling fever, stuffiness and the urge to cough up my feet, the lungs having long ago given up their grip on my chest cavity. Dusty is muttering about how 't'ain't natural for someone to be sick for three damn weeks, and I'd better get my butt to the doctor on Monday. (Hey! I felt better for two whole days! Nyah!)

So I'm going to the doctor on Monday to see if I can defeat what my mother alternately calls "The Plague" or "The Creeping Cruds". For all of you out there who are battling the same damn thing, I lift my glass of Dayquil in a toast: "AAACHOOOO! Gesundheit."

Hope you all feel better. Me, I'm going back to bed while Dusty's home to take care of the kids.

Central Time, Not Eastern...

I just found out the Cafe is on Central time, not Eastern, so I'll be chatting there at one EST, noon CST, eleven MST, and ten PST. (Did I get that right? I hope I got that right. If I didn't, Bonnie Dee's gonna be upset...)

Chatting at the Cafe

One month from Saturday, The Wallflower comes out. I'm already beginning to sense the massive amounts of excitement and anxiety I'm going to feel on that day.

Yes, I'm a worrier. Drives Dusty nuts.

I'm not sure if this feeling will fade over time, or if I'll feel this build-up with each and every novella, short story, and novel I put out there. I'm trying to distract myself with things like promotions, making sure my website is completely up to date, and writing in this blog.

Since I'm still working out the timing of when I should really begin promotions, I asked the one lady in the shifter anthologies who's been published before. So, on her advice (thanks, Marie! you've been so patient!), I'm taking an hour of the Samhain Cafe's Read An E-Book Week (otherwise known as RAEB). I'll be chatting there from noon to one tomorrow, so if any of you readers are members (or wish to become members), I will see you there.

Animusic

I am reminded once again of why I like Animusic.

My kids decided they wanted to watch this again the other night (thank you for the DVD's, Grammy! they love it), and even Dusty paused what he was doing long enough to listen and enjoy.

If you like CGI mixed with techno/classic music, Animusic is a must.

Take a look:

See?

Here's the song I've currently got playing on my MySpace page:

Enjoy!

Blogging At Samhain Weblog

I'm blogging over at the Samhain Weblog today. It's my very first post with them, and I just had to do it.

With a tagline of, "Dance with an alpha in the pale moonlight..." how could I not write about alpha males?

In a lot of groups and blogs people have written about what alpha males shouldn't be. I decided to post on what the should be, and what a true alpha male really is. Or, at least, it's my take on an alpha male. Check it out, post comments, and let me know if you agree or disagree with me!

Blogging Away and Super Flu, Part Oh God Please Go Away Already

No cold should go on so long that Robitussin DM can safely be considered a dietary supplement and added into your daily caloric intake.

The Germ Gods have been reading The Stand again, haven't they? It seems like nothing I do can kill this stupid flu! Just as I start to feel better, I do something simple like grocery shopping and I'm flat on my back again the next day. Dusty's insisting it's no longer the flu but a sinus infection; if I'm still sick tomorrow, I'll go to the doctor and see if we can't figure out some way to take care of this once and for all.

On a happier note, I'm doing my first blog on the Samhain Weblog on Thursday at nine a.m. I've decided the topic is going to be on something that's run through my head a lot lately: What is an alpha male?

Hope you stop by and give it a read, maybe even a comment!
