It's long over-due, and I don't want anyone left hanging anymore.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">Back in, I'd say, very early 2020 (like December 2019/January 2020) I started to experience extreme fatigue. I thought, "Joy, I love fibromyalgia!" and didn't give it a second thought beyond resting until it passed.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">It passed four months ago.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">We thought certain stressors, like Covid (which I didn't catch, thank goodness) and Dusty being laid off (we're fine, so don't worry about it) contributed to the lengthy flare I was experiencing. Even my rheumatologist seemed to think so, and due to Covid happening not long after the flare started, we just hoped to ride it out. My appetite, what little I had, disappeared. I barely drank or ate anything. And yes, my rheumatologist believes I dehydrated myself, which contributed to everything going on. I was in pain, constantly, that not even the medical marijuana could touch. I lost track of time, how long I'd been in bed, what day of the week it was, sometimes what <span style="font-style: italic;">month</span> it was. My brother-in-law lost his home and had to move in with us. Luckily, his wife and I get along great, so there were no concerns there. Dusty was laid off, which meant we would, eventually, have to sell our dream home and move.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">And then restrictions lifted and I could see my doc in person. She was horrified by my condition. Blood work was done, MRI's, x-rays, and in the end...not much had changed. My AS (<span style="color: #2b6ca3;"><span style="text-decoration-line: underline;"><a dataquery="bGluay1sZTM2ZmxlYw==">ankylosing spondylitis</a></span></span>) hadn't fused much more of my spine than it had before the lengthy flare. Which turned out to not be a fibro flare after all. And damn it, I'm kinda mad that none of us, including myself, realized what was really going on.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">My biologics had stopped working on me, meaning my AS was fully active again.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">Biologics target specific parts of the immune system, effectively causing those parts to stop attacking my body. In other words, stop trying to fuse my spine, damn it! But the body becomes adjusted over time to the biologic, making it less and less effective until you come out of remission and go into a full-on AS flare.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">The cure was to put me on a different biologic. The new one is called Taltz. It's a once-a-month injection that I do myself, and after five months I'm doing much better than I was. I'm moving around, helping to move into our new home. I'm sitting here, typing this out, which six months ago I couldn't do. I feel like an idiot for not understanding enough about my own body to let that flare go on so long without questioning whether or not it was medication related. My only excuse is there was so much going on that it just never occured to me.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">I don't want, nor expect, anyone to feel pity for me. I've lived with this disorder a long time and I learned something new that cost me quite a bit, but gained me quite a bit as well. I'm now in a new home with Dusty, my boys and my BIL and his family as well, and we're actually quite happy with it. I've got my little corner of the fireplace room, where I can write once more and hopefully get Jamie and Hope's story banged out before the end times come. </p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">I'm recovering, slowly but surely getting a little better every day.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">I'm going to try and be more active on social media now that I'm actually capable of sitting at my desk for more than five minutes without screaming. I'll try answering emails a little more often as well. Please, be patient with me. I've had slide-back days that are coming less and less frequently, but they do happen. </p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">I'm so, so sorry that I didn't think to have Dusty post something about what was going on. He's had to carry the load for both of us, and he's been my rock through this whole thing. He's been going through his own issues as well as having to deal with mine. I love him more than anything, and could never ask for a better life partner than him, so go easy on him.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">In a couple of weeks I'll write a blog post about the Saga of Vineland, where our new home is. It's been...interesting? Fun? Costly? Maybe chaotic would be the best word for it. I'm sitting here, shaking my head and not sure whether to laugh or cry, but I will say despite the, um, interesting things that have been happening, I love my new home and am happy we're here.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">I love you guys. I'll try and keep you more in the loop from now on. I'm going to give Dusty the ability to post for me either here or on my blog just in case I can't. Right now he's in full-0n househusband mode, but he's talked about helping me with certain aspects of my writing career, like marketing and advertising, and I might just take him up on that. </p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">If anyone has any questions for me, I'll mostly be on Facebook. I have trouble following Twitter for some reason, but I'll try and pop in there as well. The links to my social media are at the bottom of this page.</p><p class="font_8"><span class="wixGuard"></span></p><p class="font_8">Again, I love you guys. Sorry to make you wait. Now, excuse me while I go work on Jamie and Hope. They've waited long enough.</p>Dana Marie Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12658055694533650313noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587550236172295383.post-56526627702605604342017-08-16T15:26:00.000-04:002017-08-16T15:26:18.652-04:00MU + DMB 4Evar! Plus, 25% Done on Sound's FamiliarI watch way, <i>way</i> too many makeup tutorials.<br />
<br />
Like, a <i>lot</i>.<br />
<br />
So today, having been inspired by god knows what (I think I was picturing Dita von Teese), I decided to have some fun and try doing winged eyeliner.<br />
<br />
Two things you need to know before I go any further:<br />
<br />
A) I have very hooded eyes, meaning that when my eyes are open, you can't really see my "mobile lid" unless I put a very light colored eyeshadow on it;<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8LDzEDOvanwhHEvTrP3dT6ySdJdz7RVvQ_JQqqggnS4NeNmdqfVKIzNgR_O5NG_0ExStIkTDUMsD-v9YzV23LTz7p4zS9vU-Vw26yRWzW0szjTUc_KcCANGKAWTw4IoqIEy5dEjYBHdo/s1600/eyes8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1066" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8LDzEDOvanwhHEvTrP3dT6ySdJdz7RVvQ_JQqqggnS4NeNmdqfVKIzNgR_O5NG_0ExStIkTDUMsD-v9YzV23LTz7p4zS9vU-Vw26yRWzW0szjTUc_KcCANGKAWTw4IoqIEy5dEjYBHdo/s1600/eyes8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
and B) I haven't done winged eyeliner since I was in my twenties.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.youtube.com/vi/fR14V7Fkc1U/mqdefault.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://img.youtube.com/vi/fR14V7Fkc1U/mqdefault.jpg" data-original-height="180" data-original-width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZQ0XPE7wxMafUf8dIHOxgQ" target="_blank">Stephanie Lange</a> does a great video about <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR14V7Fkc1U" target="_blank">winged eyeliner do's and don'ts</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Eep.<br />
<br />
So effort #1 required <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/micellar-water-skincare_us_55a66a22e4b0896514cfd3c9" target="_blank">micellar water</a> and a lot of cursing to remove. No, I didn't photograph it. I didn't think to. Plus, the horror may have been too much for a Wednesday afternoon in August.<br />
<br />
I know. Bad blogger. No cookie for you.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi15hzHIWfgyPOqKGqlGwk5s2B7LTIjQCds7X_vba24zTay6qB7loBU6ZeAFipvx5pLpHWcf1CBlExRpHBky1ajA-9XI1WyotllROz1P7tODm-YS5yM76erEbKOgOtlDvryp6vRjMVbu1QE/s1600/Sad+face+animals+(3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi15hzHIWfgyPOqKGqlGwk5s2B7LTIjQCds7X_vba24zTay6qB7loBU6ZeAFipvx5pLpHWcf1CBlExRpHBky1ajA-9XI1WyotllROz1P7tODm-YS5yM76erEbKOgOtlDvryp6vRjMVbu1QE/s1600/Sad+face+animals+(3).jpg" data-original-height="830" data-original-width="1200" height="221" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Thank the gods for <a href="http://tartecosmetics.com/tarte-item-shape-tape-contour-concealer?locale=USA&gclid=CjwKCAjw2s_MBRA5EiwAmWIac4NXIIPdzUgiBzUbDjza9ECSd6Etk0ZIMa8MBwmsU24KpUOrg8s73hoCg5cQAvD_BwE" target="_blank">Tarte Shape Tape</a> and patience or I'd look like a racoon today. Instead, I turned out looking like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMNKeG-04STF3OTihHvqP7AMK9KhH_aIHAZEZQ0IxEMNkdmopFV5jcbgcJRD99m3-p_pIqryyiDm8N-zcnErO5xGjxppV3tKuT0F1c2Ni63OUWS0VFJ1URYO_pjpipSZg3gDKisYiJPMs/s1600/2017-08-16+12.56.15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMNKeG-04STF3OTihHvqP7AMK9KhH_aIHAZEZQ0IxEMNkdmopFV5jcbgcJRD99m3-p_pIqryyiDm8N-zcnErO5xGjxppV3tKuT0F1c2Ni63OUWS0VFJ1URYO_pjpipSZg3gDKisYiJPMs/s320/2017-08-16+12.56.15.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
You can barely see the wings I spent *coughwheezewaytoomuch* time on, but they are <i>there</i>, damn it. Since you can't see them with my glasses on, I went ahead and took a pic without my glasses.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-QQYnnBzqAx4TjSmHhljlpULIAuoXER-lCtn9Sw7lDUjrXALRjXaXqNH2LFQvH9c_-2ZB2opHL202o7ZHre9d07JiAuugq-mgPTg4jaEbRQpTeaf0d98Z-9O9Bo3_yVdXNpngHv2yuls/s1600/2017-08-16+14.13.05.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-QQYnnBzqAx4TjSmHhljlpULIAuoXER-lCtn9Sw7lDUjrXALRjXaXqNH2LFQvH9c_-2ZB2opHL202o7ZHre9d07JiAuugq-mgPTg4jaEbRQpTeaf0d98Z-9O9Bo3_yVdXNpngHv2yuls/s320/2017-08-16+14.13.05.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I think I like the glasses better, since they hide a multitude of my blending sins. Also, try to ignore my janky lips. I love this color (<a href="https://colourpop.com/products/lax" target="_blank">ColourPop's LAX</a>, a matte lipstick, with <a href="http://www.ulta.com/xxxl-shine-lipgloss?productId=xlsImpprod1910109" target="_blank">Essence's XXXL Shine lipgloss</a> in Pretty in Hibiscus on top), but my lipstick got smeared after a certain kitty decided he wanted love. Trying to pick white cat hairs out of lipstick is a bitch, let me tell you.<br />
<br />
So I showed Dusty the fruits of my makeup labors (pre-kitty hairs), asking his opinion on my first winged eyeliner look in years. He replied, "You remind me of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lily_Munster" target="_blank">Lily Munster</a>."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_qhC8Z743v9MK2I13ryiZxd9bzLP0tkod5L8OsxsF9360zjl3FHE2_W9nou9OqlcjgOC8RnLPHQ9UEqSAJJx4ye8DuQmOjOmbogygxCv-USusrWJiS2-ongYePT866W5qMxzf8Kfa_QY/s1600/orig-12616851.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_qhC8Z743v9MK2I13ryiZxd9bzLP0tkod5L8OsxsF9360zjl3FHE2_W9nou9OqlcjgOC8RnLPHQ9UEqSAJJx4ye8DuQmOjOmbogygxCv-USusrWJiS2-ongYePT866W5qMxzf8Kfa_QY/s1600/orig-12616851.jpg" data-original-height="376" data-original-width="300" height="320" width="255" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I can't think looking like <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yvonne_De_Carlo" target="_blank">Yvonne De Carlo</a> is a bad thing under any circumstances, so I'll take it as a win.<br />
<br />
P.S.: Work on <b>Sound's Familiar</b> is going slowly, but it <i>is</i> going. It has more to do with the weather and my health than the story. Both Jonah and Carol are speaking clearly to me, and I've hit the quarter done mark, so YAY! Most of the research/initial world building is done, so things should go much quicker now. I look forward to sharing this new world of magic, familiars, elves and demons with you.<br />
<br />
P.P.S.: Try NYX eyeshadows. They're pigmented as hell and the price-point is spot-on. Also, Ulta often has NYX products buy one get one half-off, so take advantage of those sales!<br />
<br />
P.P.P.S.: My favorite makeup "gurus". These are the ones who I'm like, "Oooh, a new video is up!":<br />

<br />
The covers have changed due to the length of time since they were published. Neither Samhain nor the artist had the original files, so other than <b><a href="http://www.danamariebell.com/steel-beauty" target="_blank">Steel Beauty</a><span id="goog_1010126483"></span><a href="https://www.blogger.com/"></a><span id="goog_1010126484"></span></b> I had to change the covers.<br />
<br />
The content, however, has not changed, <i><b>so if you already own the series please don't purchase it again</b></i>! Unless you want copies with the new cover, in which case feel free. Who am I to stop you?<br />
<br />
I don't have purchase links on the excerpt pages (yet; that will take me a whole day, a day I'd rather be writing). In order to purchase you'll have to go to <a href="http://www.danamariebell.com/halle-pumas-shifters-poconos-pack">http://www.danamariebell.com/halle-pumas-shifters-poconos-pack</a> and find the book you wish to buy from the series.<br />
<br />
P.S.: Other than the Puma/Shifter/Poconos Pack world, each series has its own page.<br />
<br />

Dr. Adrian Giordano is quite happy with the way his life is going. His two best friends are happily mated, and he’s still sanely single. He has friends, a thriving business, and the occasional Saturday night date. Then Sheridan Montgomery comes to town. Coping with a devastating injury is hard enough for Belinda “Belle” Campbell. Forced separation from her destined mate while she heals is almost more than she can endure. Until she is strong enough to take up her duties as Luna of the Poconos Wolf Pack, however, the safest place for her is Halle. Now, after months of being alone, she is more than ready to be claimed. But is the pack ready for a Puma Luna?</div>

Rick Lowell has waited long enough to bring Belle home where she belongs. He’s aware of the danger, as well—and it isn’t long before a bitch with an eye on Belle’s position issues a challenge. The only way to put down the threat is for Belle to defeat the usurper in combat.</div>

There’s only one problem. Thanks to the pins in her broken hip, Belle can’t shift. Without that tactical advantage, it won’t be a fair fight. With his new mate’s life on the line, Rick is forced to make a decision that will change everything.</div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“What
happened?” Sam kept her voice low. She didn’t want to disturb Damien, but she
was dying to find out how they’d rescued Rafe and whether or not Damien needed
anything other than a shoulder to lean on.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“I

<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“I’ll
wait while you figure it out.” She started stroking his forehead. The poor man
looked exhausted. There were dark circles under his curiously glowing eyes, and
his shoulders were slumped. Damien leaned heavily against her, snuggling close.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">His
power must take a lot out of him, because he’d napped before he left and now he
looked like he hadn’t slept in at least three days.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He
sighed, the scowl slowly disappearing. “You have forever to stop doing that.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Sam
continued to rub his forehead, patiently waiting for him to speak again. This
close to him, the scent of his skin, his hair, and feel his breath on her
breasts made her want to hold him even closer, preferably naked. She tried
desperately not to react when his hand landed on her thigh, an intimate touch
that went nowhere. He didn’t move his hand, just let it sit there, warming her.
It was a brand, as if he was setting his claim on her, and she couldn’t find it
in her to ask him to move. She didn’t want him to. She wanted to be claimed by
him, but she wasn’t sure how to tell him so. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“Shem
give off a certain aura, a scent and a fog that’s…” He grunted. “It’s this
thick green miasma only other angel-born can see and smell.” Damien grimaced.
“We call it their stench, because there’s this odor that accompanies them, like
rotten food or spoiled eggs.” <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“Ew.”
Sam wrinkled her nose. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“The
place was saturated with it, so much so I couldn’t see into the building. We
had to go in to see who was there. While Gio and Sasha took care of the first
floor, I went to the second and found the kids.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“Are
they Shem, too?” She couldn’t imagine such innocent-looking children being
hungry little Shem. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“Yes
and no. They’re too young to hunt and feed, so they can be saved. But they were
born to Shem parents and lived in the stench for so long the little boy’s belly
hurt from Shem hunger. I think Gabriel is their best hope for not turning fully
Shem. They have the chance to become true Nephilim now.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“So
you not only saved Rafe, you saved two kids.” She’d known he was a superhero,
even if he didn’t believe it himself. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He
grunted. “There was no hope for their parents. They were lost years ago.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“But
there’s hope for them, and that’s all you could do.” She started as Micah came
thundering down the stairs, racing toward where Gabriel had disappeared with
Rafe. “Does Gabriel need our help?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Damien
shook his head wearily. “That’s what Micah’s doing. He’ll help Gabriel, maybe
even take on some of the healing himself.” <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">She
bit her lip. “You seem really tired. Are you ready to go to bed?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He
smiled. “Are you propositioning me, Ms. Brody?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Sam
smacked his forehead. They’d only gone on one non-date he insisted was a date.
No way she’d ask him to her room so soon.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“Ow.”
He sat up, rubbing the faint red mark she’d left behind. “No, not yet. It’s
going to take a little bit longer for my vision to return to normal.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“Okay.
Want me to keep you company?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He
leaned his head wearily against the back of the sofa. “Yes, please.” He took
hold of her hand. “Anything happen while we were gone?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“Nothing
major, unless you count some foxes playing in the backyard important.” She eyed
him sideways. “Zeke only flirted with me twice.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">His
grip on her hand tightened. “Oh?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">She
blushed furiously. She was going to go to hell with the lies she was telling.
“Yup.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“Did
you tell him I’d kick his ass if he kept it up?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">She
stared at him in shock. “No. Why would I?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He
started to laugh. “Why would you?” His tone was self-mocking, bittersweet
almost. He turned to face her, the pale blue now a deep cornflower blue. He’d
said it would be a while before he saw correctly again. His eyes were darkening
back to his natural sapphire. “You want to find out why you should?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">She
nodded, unable to look away from his strange, hypnotic eyes. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“This.”
He leaned forward, taking her mouth in a ruthless, possessive kiss that left
her senses reeling. The taste of him overwhelmed her, his scent filling her.
His hands cupped her face, his fingers slowly threading through her hair. She
whimpered when he started to pull away, throwing her arms around his neck. She
pulled him closer, kissing him back, practically begging him to keep going. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He
moved his hands from her face to her waist, taking charge once again. The kiss
changed from possessive to sensual, drugging her with desire. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The
kiss went on and on. She couldn’t tell if it had been hours or minutes since
his lips met hers, and she didn’t care. When his lips left hers she could
barely catch her breath.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">His
hands clenched, gathering the back of her shirt in his fists. “I don’t want to
go any further than this. I don’t want to scare you off.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Damien’s
eyes were finally back to normal, the beautiful sapphire so dark it was almost
navy blue. “There you are.” She smiled and touched just beside his eye. “Can
you see again?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal" style="line-height: 150%; tab-stops: .5in 1.0in 1.5in 2.0in 2.5in 3.0in 3.5in 4.0in 4.5in 5.0in 5.5in 6.0in 6.5in 7.0in; text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">He
nodded. “You’re not afraid of what I am?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> “No. Not even a little.” She frowned, thinking about
him out in the night, fighting monsters. “I’m afraid <i>for</i> you.”</span></div>

I'm still only releasing in eBook, though I hope to fix that soon. It releases May 26th on Amazon and May 27th everywhere else. That was an error on my part. The service I use to populate B&N et al doesn't allow for pre-orders shorter than ten days. I went to upload on the ninth day, adding a day by accident.<br />

<br />
In other news, <b>Hide and Seek</b> (True Destiny Book 6) is now with my favorite editor, <a href="http://www.teracuskaden.com/" target="_blank">Tera Cuskaden</a>. She was my Samhain editor and not only knows my style well, but this series. I'm hoping for an early to mid-July release on this.<br />
<br />
As for <b>Hour of the Wolf</b>, I'm hoping to finish that up before I really work on my next project, which is one for Tera in her role as an editor with Entangled. We've discussed the project and she's really interested in it, so I've promised to start that ASAP. Once that's done, it's off to Halle to work on Jamie and Hope.<br />
<br />
And that's it for now! I'm working my tail off, don't worry. And you know when a Leo works her tail things are getting serious.<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>/RantOn!</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.trinitydigitalmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/youtube-censorship.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://www.trinitydigitalmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/youtube-censorship.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Did you know that a lot of content on YouTube (one of my main sources of entertainment) is being dubbed "not family friendly" and is having their advertising yanked?<br />
<br />
Yeah, I didn't either until some of my favorite YouTubers began mentioning what was going on. Some of them have lost up to 80% of their revenue due to the changes, and they're almost all small 'Tubers who don't have the large numbers that, say Stephen Colbert has.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.thewrap.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/stephen-colbert-late-show-cartoon-trump.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.thewrap.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/stephen-colbert-late-show-cartoon-trump.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yes, I know there's a reason he has those numbers. I love me some Stephen too. But we're talking the creepy, the horror, the #KeepYouTubeCreepy members of the community like me, who love to watch things like <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/TheRobDyke" target="_blank">Rob Dyke</a>'s Seriously Strange series or <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ9YdClgOz-5qEvkc1s3j6Q" target="_blank">Cayleigh Elise</a>'s Dark Matters.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ZxhF192ZKmU/maxresdefault.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ZxhF192ZKmU/maxresdefault.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Why does <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEWN9Q_8SIcIpNLTvvw9aAg" target="_blank">Deadly Women</a>'s channel continue to get advertising when <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs3iFCPtX0gzkKxCrobO4ig" target="_blank">Criminally Listed</a> doesn't? Because they're from a major network, that's why. And as YouTube grows and changes, it overreacts to things like the Wall Street Journal's article on "objectionable content". I won't link the article to you because, unfortunately, you probably can't read it unless you're subscribed to their paper. I tried to look it up and was unable to read it because I'm not. (I did link the below headline to the paper's article if you want to try and read it.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/googles-youtube-has-continued-showing-brands-ads-with-racist-and-other-objectionable-videos-1490380551" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="60" src="https://cdn.milo.yiannopoulos.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Screen-Shot-2017-04-02-at-7.01.02-PM.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So. Yeah. Even sites without the creepy content, like <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC76ylFnNS-Tojn1I4PX1kIA" target="_blank">AnimeAmerica</a>, are getting hit because they...review...anime? I'm not sure what's hitting them (YouTube algorithms are said to give nuclear physicists hives), but I bet it's that pesky "family friendly" thing YouTube is stressing about.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChA_F1gcBCSvCYvsvPlbv3w" target="_blank">The Vintage Files</a>, a channel that discusses old murder cases, disappearances and other things, is missing revenue because of the YouTube issue. I understand there's a whole list of words that can't be put in the description or title or else the video does not receive advertising.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/X1LpDf4Gdf4/mqdefault.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/X1LpDf4Gdf4/mqdefault.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I worry, as an author of romance novels who writes things that are a bit on the spicy side, that this trend could wind up impacting people like me or others who write even spicier novels. Content doesn't need to be "family friendly" on a website where a simple click can take you away from the material you find so offensive. Guard your kids, people. Watch what they watch. Don't just assume YouTube will babysit them for you, do it yourself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.aquila-style.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Story.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.aquila-style.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Story.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My kids watch YouTube, but we can see their computers from where we sit (or my husband can since we moved into the new house, and let me tell you he's far stricter than I am). If he or I see something we don't want them watching, WE MAKE THEM TURN IT OFF. Simple as that.<br />
<br />
We had company two weeks ago, and one of the boys wanted to watch hunting videos where wild hogs were slaughtered. I told him no, I don't watch that in this house and neither do you. Luckily his mother backed me up, he turned it off, and that was that. No advertiser needed to pull its slot, no YouTube needed to blacklist the video. It was done, taken care of.<br />
<br />
So please don't babysit my content, YouTube and your advertisers. Let me do that. I can do it just fine, thanks.<br />
<br />
<i>P.S. For those, like me, who adore true crime stories and creepy content, you can use the hashtag #KeepYouTubeCreepy to support those YouTubers who give you that content. You can also subscribe to Patreons or buy merchandise, but you have to check individual YouTuber channels to see who is doing what.</i><br />

<b>/RantOff</b>Dana Marie Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12658055694533650313noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587550236172295383.post-2950099219052697452017-04-07T09:39:00.001-04:002017-04-07T09:39:43.975-04:00Beta Readers, WIPs, Print Books and Cover PrettiesGods, it sounds like a lot to go over from the title of this post, but really there isn't that much to discuss.<br />
<br />
<b>Hide and Seek</b> is with my beta readers now. Once they're done with it I'll hire an editor to go over it and polish it up for publication.<br />
<br />
As for my current projects, I've got...two? Yeah, two going on, and one that needs to be outlined.<br />
<br />
First, I've got <b>Hour of the Wolf</b> back from my MIL with lots of notes for me to go over. Hopefully, the fresh perspective will allow me to fix the problems and finish the novel.<br />
<br />
Second, I've started a series for Entangled's Otherworld line called Terra Noctem. The first novel in the series is called <b>Sound's Familiar</b>. I've got the novel outlined and I've started working on it, but I still have some research to do before the novel gets into the full swing of things. I love creating new worlds and getting ideas on how it should (and shouldn't) work. (Plus I promised someone months ago that I'd start this series "soon", and I hate breaking a promise.)<br />
<br />
Thirdly, I've started a rough outline of <b>Hope in Darkness</b>. I know a lot of you are waiting for this one, and I promise that it's coming. It's going to be darker than a lot of my other novels due to Hope's ongoing issues and Jamie's... erm... insanity. I need to maybe binge watch Dexter to wrap my brain around poor Jamie.<br />
<br />
Man, that's a lot of stuff already.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/f2/7d/cd/f27dcddd83ed2e18c8db3ec98aec120f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/f2/7d/cd/f27dcddd83ed2e18c8db3ec98aec120f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Okay. Print books. I'm working on that. I need to figure out how to make ebook covers become print book covers, since all I got from Samhain were the ebook covers (it's all they had to give me, so it wasn't their fault). Once I figure out sizing, trim, etc. I'll start my print publications.<br />
<br />
Lastly, I have a cover pretty to share with you! It's the cover for <b><a href="http://www.danamariebell.com/speak-thy-name" target="_blank">Speak Thy Name</a></b>, the third Nephilim book! I've already shared it on Facebook, but I know not everyone follows me there so I thought I'd share it here as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.danamariebell.com/speak-thy-name" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp0X2BYM1mcOocHgsX3A_X_owvlpsg0s_plJteEfE261O_0FhhiXOlZsSjGoxkTMRWwPQm9s50ViPNcx8mzV7u3tJ4K1hCnmBduO7XLnTyPqs1B0sKFw-uK6ucbUQ4T0bYsf7xJ3vM3zY/s320/speakthyname-bell-ebookweb.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
This Nephilim book will be going to print as I'm self-publishing this series from now on. <a href="http://paperandsage.com/site/" target="_blank">Paper & Sage</a> did the cover art, and they did a beautiful job with it. I'll definitely use them again.<br />
<br />
<i>Anything else? Hmmm... Anything I might have been holding out on you guys?</i><br />
<br />
Oh, yeah. That's right. I have the cover for <b>Hide and Seek</b> already.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisTaniXgXfcyTDrGTb2R0XEZi4IG5sVAPGGRAjpg7M9le0pKy1csAwgmvTMgxo7dbpdDPkU9QmBC1D-nv5seFH4Iv06JPTBNAdMHsmqR2T1BVzkvbjSPB56FGuqjYPa-SWSbDkpZDkxzk/s1600/HideAndSeek72.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisTaniXgXfcyTDrGTb2R0XEZi4IG5sVAPGGRAjpg7M9le0pKy1csAwgmvTMgxo7dbpdDPkU9QmBC1D-nv5seFH4Iv06JPTBNAdMHsmqR2T1BVzkvbjSPB56FGuqjYPa-SWSbDkpZDkxzk/s320/HideAndSeek72.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The wonderful <a href="http://angelawatersart.com/" target="_blank">Angela Waters</a> did this cover. It made sense to ask her, as she's done all of the True Destiny covers up till now. Another amazing cover artist I adore and will use again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, that's it! I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!</div>

At least, I think she was born in that year. We know she was a year and a half roughly when we got her, and that she might have had a litter before she was picked up. She was good with people despite being in a shelter for four months. No one wanted her because it was said she had pitbull blood in her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, <i>we</i> wanted her, and she turned out to be the sweetest pup I've ever known. She was also a Houdini dog, getting free of her backyard lead many times to hop the neighbor's low fence to freedom. (She always came home, but still! How did she unhook her collar?!?) She'd also somehow get under the deck and tie her lead around poles in ways even we had trouble figuring out unless she shrank to the size of a baby bunny (which is what we think she was chasing when she did it. Smart bunnies:1000; silly dog: -1000.)</div>

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/52/15/e8/5215e81563087cc052f495328a5d333d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/52/15/e8/5215e81563087cc052f495328a5d333d.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So what does that mean for me (and you)? Well, if you have books you purchased from Samhain's website, go download them now while the site is still live. If you have books from Samhain through third-party vendors (like Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Kobo) you should be fine. The books won't be yanked from your device.<br />
<br />
As for me, it means I get to enter the wonderful world of self-publishing.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="http://soepic.net/stor/items/0371857706b0e1e20.jpg" height="289" width="320" /></div>
<br />
<br />
Oh yes. I'll be self-pubbing the Halle Pumas, Heart's Desire, The Nephilim and the True Destiny series at a minimum. There's a lot of work ahead of me to get this going, but the author community is awesome and they're all willing to help someone who needs it, especially <a href="http://carrieannryan.com/" target="_blank">Carrie Ann Ryan</a> and <a href="http://piperjdrake.com/" target="_blank">Piper J Drake</a>. One gave me sites to investigate and the other let me vent my fears and frustrations. Others have offered their input as well.<br />
<br />
I'm lucky to be in a field where we are willing to help each other succeed. I hope to pay it forward some day.<br />
<br />
So <a href="http://www.danamariebell.com/speak-thy-name" target="_blank"><b>Speak Thy Name</b></a> will come out sooner than June, the date Samhain had given me. I have to hire an editor and a cover artist before I can upload the book to the different sites. I understand the Google bookstore is not accepting any new authors, so I may not be for sale there in the foreseeable future, but all the others should be doable. It also means that <b>Hide and Seek</b> will be up as soon as I finish the two sex scenes I still have to write, have it go through the Meat Grinder and the beta readers and have the rights back to the rest of the series.<br />
<br />
I'm hoping the rights reversion doesn't take too long.The sooner I own the rights once more the better. I have to find out if I need to get new ISBN's for the books that are already in print or not. I have to arrange to purchase the covers for both print and eBook editions. I need to learn how to format for ebook and print editions as well. There's so much to do, so many lists of things I need to take care of, so much to research...I...adulting is...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.tehcute.com/pics/201204/bunny-falls-asleep-at-desk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.tehcute.com/pics/201204/bunny-falls-asleep-at-desk.jpg" height="164" width="320" /></a></div>

Yes, I've been forced by finances to pull out of <a href="https://coastalmagicconvention.com/" target="_blank">Coastal Magic</a>. Believe me, I wouldn't pull out for any other reason. I loved that convention last year and was looking forward to it again. Sadly, it's not to be.<br />
<br />
I feel like an ass. Jennifer Morris, I'm so sorry. I know I apologized in my email to you, but to pull out three weeks before the convention makes me feel like a total dick.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://media.giphy.com/media/d7fTn7iSd2ivS/giphy.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="https://media.giphy.com/media/d7fTn7iSd2ivS/giphy.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I won't be doing conventions, I may (MAY) try to learn how to live vlog. <a href="http://piperjdrake.com/" target="_blank">Piper J. Drake</a> has been urging me to, but I'm not a big fan of my own voice so I'm not sure how that will go. We'll see. Even if I do it, I won't do it during the week of <a href="https://coastalmagicconvention.com/" target="_blank">Coastal Magic</a> out of respect (and besides, I'll be hiding in my Box of Shame).<br />
<br />
So. Yeah. That's my update, sad as it is. The repercussions of last year's health problems are still being felt even now. I'll miss you guys this year. You have no idea how much you cheer me up when I see you, so lift a glass for me, will you?Dana Marie Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12658055694533650313noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587550236172295383.post-81257417013612540202016-12-23T17:00:00.000-05:002016-12-23T17:00:05.171-05:00Happy Holidays!I'm taking next week off (starting December 24th) to enjoy the holidays with my family, so I won't be on social media at all if I can help it. I'm going to glut myself on video games until my eyes cross, eat pasta and fish, and pretend work doesn't exist until Monday, January 2nd. That also means that my newsletter will be a bit late since I'll have company visiting from December 30th to the 2nd of January.<br />

I want all of you to have a wonderful holiday, no matter which one you celebrate. I'll see you all next year.Dana Marie Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12658055694533650313noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587550236172295383.post-5373787340465389332016-12-08T15:13:00.002-05:002016-12-08T15:13:36.438-05:00Dana Prism Powers, MAAAAKE! UP!Hah. If you got the title, I bow to you. You remember Bunny's favorite anime series, <a href="http://www.crunchyroll.com/sailor-moon-crystal" target="_blank">Sailor Moon</a>! But I'm not talking about anime right now (though I could, oh, I <i>could</i>). Nope. I'm talking makeup.<br />
<br />
Note: If you don't like makeup, check out <a href="http://www.crunchyroll.com/" target="_blank">Crunchyroll</a>. If you don't like anime...um...Netflix and chill? But this post isn't for you.<br />
<br />
It's December, the month where I tend to replace my 12 month expiration date makeups like eyeshadow, foundation and primers. (Although I just bought a new mascara, <a href="http://www.ulta.com/doll-eye-volume-mascara?productId=xlsImpprod5440031" target="_blank">Nyx's Doll Eye</a>, this week, and I'm wearing it today. So far...impressed!) So I'm surfing Sephora and Ulta and I'm overwhelmed by holiday stuff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://ofpirouettesandconcealers.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/original.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://ofpirouettesandconcealers.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/original.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
God, I need this stuff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://az616578.vo.msecnd.net/files/responsive/embedded/any/desktop/2015/10/13/635803595091493634571794019_Funny-Beauty-Memes-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://az616578.vo.msecnd.net/files/responsive/embedded/any/desktop/2015/10/13/635803595091493634571794019_Funny-Beauty-Memes-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
No, really. Now is a great time to buy makeup. With the holiday sales and promos, you can get good makeup that's relatively inexpensive (by Sephora standards, anyway). And Ulta carries both high-end and drugstore makeup, so it's full of win!<br />
<br />
I'm still loving my <a href="http://www.sephora.com/melted-liquified-long-wear-lipstick-P386033?skuId=1603976&icid2=products%20grid:p386033" target="_blank">Too Faced Melted liquid lipsticks</a>, and my god the <a href="http://www.sephora.com/the-chocolate-bar-eye-palette-P384402?keyword=TOO%20FACED%20The%20Chocolate%20Bar%20Eye%20Palette%20P384402&skuId=1578012&_requestid=335710" target="_blank">Too Faced chocolate bar</a> palettes are my go-to palettes. I may not buy the Kat von D Shade and Light again, since I rarely use it, but her mini-palettes were really nice.<br />
<br />
But this year, like a lot of people, I'm on a budget, so I'll be looking for good drugstore dupes for a lot of these. I'm watching makeup videos on YouTube to find what I want and where I can get it. So far my faves are <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/GlamLifeGuru" target="_blank">Tati</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/macshadowcombos" target="_blank">Zabrena</a>, because they both do high-end and drugstore makeup tutorials and reviews. And they both like to do dupe videos, which I'll probably be binge-watching before I buy.<br />
<br />
Does anyone else have the Grav3yard Girl Tarte palette? Because, LOVE. As in, full on heart boner.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://quotesjunk.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/i-like-you-so-much-that-whenever-i-see-you-i-get-a-boner-not-like-a-penis-boner-but-a-boner-in-my-heart-a-heart-boner-a-heart-on-an-affection-erection.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://quotesjunk.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/i-like-you-so-much-that-whenever-i-see-you-i-get-a-boner-not-like-a-penis-boner-but-a-boner-in-my-heart-a-heart-boner-a-heart-on-an-affection-erection.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Too bad it's limited edition and won't be in stock ever again. I'll have to see if I can find a good drugstore dupe, but I doubt it. Gator Wings (the highlight) is just too awesome.<br />
<br />
As for foundation, I need one that's more hydrating than my current one (the <a href="http://www.sephora.com/lock-it-tattoo-foundation-P311138?skuId=1398858&icid2=products%20grid:p311138" target="_blank">Kat von D Lock-It</a> Primer and Foundation are what I use), so I'm looking at <a href="http://www.sephora.com/rainforest-the-sea-water-foundation-broad-spectrum-spf-15-P405102?skuId=1779180" target="_blank">Tarte's Rainforest foundation</a>. I like their stuff, so I'm hoping I'll like that.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Blushes I'm on the fence about. I haven't found one I love, since I like peachy shades rather than pink and they tend to be harder to find. NARS is supposed to be really good, but so is E.L.F., which is way less expensive (and I like the name).<br />
<br />
As for skincare, there's only one holiday pack I want, and that's the <a href="http://www.sephora.com/mask-it-all-P413941?skuId=1843184" target="_blank">boscia Mask It All</a>. It has all of the masks I want for less than the price of one. And I checked: the black mask is the same amount of product as the stand-alone. So are the others. A great price for the set.<br />
<br />
Are you looking to pick up any holiday makeup for yourself? If not, what are your go-to, gotta have items?<br />
<br />
P.S.: Has anyone else played around with contouring? Because I've had mixed results.<br />
<br />

He got sick with something so rare our vet had only seen it four times before in ten years. In DOGS. Never in cats. There was not much we could do for him, and he passed quietly in Dusty's lap last night just before midnight. We're all devastated by the loss of our Foster Kitty, as is his momma, <a href="http://piperjdrake.com/" target="_blank">Piper J. Drake</a>. Here's what she said about him on Facebook:<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
Received sad news tonight. Rest in Peace my Darren.<br />Just out of college, I was in PetSmart. There was a large crate of kittens too young to be away from their mother, but they'd been abandoned and were there to find new homes. A man and his large dog were too near the kitten crate and the man was allowing his dog to terrorize the kittens. Almost all of the kittens were cowering in the bottom of the crate in the litter pan.<br />It was Darren at 4 weeks old, a dusty orange tabby, who climbed up to the top corner of the crate, stuck out a paw, and whapped the dog right across the nose. I took Darren home with me and he helped me make a home for a pack of 3 dogs.<br />Heartfelt thanks to <a class="profileLink" data-hovercard-prefer-more-content-show="1" data-hovercard="/ajax/hovercard/user.php?id=100000435210092" href="https://www.facebook.com/dustin.bell.75" style="color: #365899; cursor: pointer; font-family: inherit; text-decoration: none;" wotsearchprocessed="true">Dustin</a> & <a class="profileLink" data-hovercard-prefer-more-content-show="1" data-hovercard="/ajax/hovercard/user.php?id=1156940337" href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1156940337" style="color: #365899; cursor: pointer; font-family: inherit; text-decoration: none;" wotsearchprocessed="true">Dana</a> for fostering him these past years when my living circumstances didn't allow for me to have him with me.<br />Goodbye, my Ninja Kitteh. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://cdn.meme.am/instances/55774467.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://cdn.meme.am/instances/55774467.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yeah, I know. It's almost done, so <i>now</i> I put it on hold? Let me explain.<br />
<br />
See, I realized that I'd been struggling for a while not only to complete this one, but to write at all. I'd lost my mojo.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/012/367/evilest.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/012/367/evilest.jpg" height="231" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After a long discussion with Dusty, I've decided that I need to set my current WIP aside and work on something else for a while. I <i>hate</i> doing it, but he's right. As it stands, that WIP will certainly get rejected. It's bad, guys. BAD.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.relatably.com/m/img/naughty-memes-pinterest/fEN0ew.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.relatably.com/m/img/naughty-memes-pinterest/fEN0ew.png" height="292" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'll admit, I hate disappointing you guys who've been waiting for Noah and Iva's story, but trust me when I say this isn't the story they deserve. I'll get back to it, I promise you that. I just need to be in a place where I can edit and end it the way they (and you) deserve. So while it's on hold and I'm getting my mojo back, I'm working on <b>Hide and Seek</b>, the next <a href="http://www.danamariebell.com/true-destiny" target="_blank">True Destiny</a> book.<br />
<br />
Speaking of rejection, <b>More Than Words</b> was rejected by <a href="http://www.carinapress.com/" target="_blank">Carina Press</a>. I'm going to go over it and, once I'm satisfied it's the best it can be (again), I'm going to send it to <a href="http://www.samhainpublishing.com/" target="_blank">Samhain Publishing</a>. If they take it, the series is theirs. If they don't...<br />
<br />
I might self-publish it.<br />
<br />

<br />
Doesn't he look so sweet and innocent?<br />
<br />
Don't let that fool you. He's known as Psycho Kitty by my friends, and for a brief moment in time I forgot that.<br />
<br />
Most of the time he hops on my lap, allows me to pet him, then descends to disappear to wherever he spends time when he's hiding from the dogs, or humans, or Darren. So today seemed like nothing new when he came to my desk and began stropping against my legs.<br />
<br />
I should have kept an eye on the tail, though. That's usually a dead giveaway.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.imgflip.com/v5ebd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://i.imgflip.com/v5ebd.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I don't know what I did, or who did what to him, but he decided about five seconds in that he was going to maul the shit out of me.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Hell, I even fell for the "pet my belly" trick because I was distracted thinking about my WIP. It was just like sticking my hand into, well...<br />
<br />

Yeesh. Kitty is <i>pissed</i>. Maybe because I gave Precious (our elderly dog) pets first? Eh, it's not like I understand what they're thinking or anything.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://coastalmagicconvention.com/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="119" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1WYZNO3z0MUwUxSZxUtothwo85TCpAClXPsHw_CyYSnIbZmJIWO1-iVClxhresGvSfCGZQaKjdLWqaySCflZ9uqcJbzamsiGO0jN1fMlMRWpg06RU4f2L3_2C5GQuy5Am8JzT16W0gY4/s320/2017CMCFeaturedAuthorRectangle372x1000.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Normally I don't talk about this, but one test, JUST ONE, cost me over $1400. That was the sleep test to see if I had sleep apnea (I do, but a mild case). If you don't believe that having a chronic disorder can cost you in more than pain, here you go. Aqua therapy will be an on-going thing, but something I can do on my own. The therapy for my shoulder is done, but I still have some work to do at home as I haven't got complete mobility back. But all of that cost me as well. Add in my prescriptions, doctor's visits, etc, and Dana has no convention budget left to speak of.<br />
<br />
So, yeah. I'm totally bummed, but I'd already planned on skipping Lori Foster's <a href="http://readerauthorgettogether.com/" target="_blank">Reader Author Convention</a> (one of my favorites, too) due to Eldest Son graduating high school on the day that convention starts. So next year will be me playing catch-up, and I plan on enjoying the hell out of the one convention I'll be going to.<br />
<br />
Don't worry, this is all stuff I can deal with, but it bites into my convention budget for next year big time. I'll be back in 2018's convention circuit. I plan on continuing my participation in both <a href="https://coastalmagicconvention.com/" target="_blank">Coastal Magic</a> and the Lori Foster's <a href="http://readerauthorgettogether.com/" target="_blank">Reader Author Convention</a>. I haven't decided about <a href="http://www.midwesternbookloversunite.com/" target="_blank">MBLU</a>, and I won't until I attend it, so please don't ask. As for the larger conventions like <a href="https://www.rtconvention.com/" target="_blank">RT</a> and <a href="https://www.rwa.org/conference" target="_blank">RWA</a>, I may have to continue passing on them. Way too much money for me at the moment, and I don't want to promise you guys something I can't deliver.<br />
<br />
I want everyone who <i>is</i> attending these cons next year to have a wonderful time, and to toss one back for me, okay? Even if it's just a cherry pepsi.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
You all should know how much I love my wild cherry pepsi.<br />
<br />
P.S.: The only cons I've mentioned that I haven't yet attended are <a href="http://www.midwesternbookloversunite.com/" target="_blank">MBLU</a> and <a href="https://www.rwa.org/conference" target="_blank">RWA</a>. The others I have, and I've enjoyed all of them.Dana Marie Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12658055694533650313noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587550236172295383.post-3181188034360592862016-09-15T16:13:00.001-04:002016-09-15T16:13:33.497-04:00I Love My Lyrica; Also, MBLU Convention News<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://bookarahma.files.wordpress.com/2016/05/chronic-illness-cat-meme-generator-get-sudden-burst-of-energy-accomplish-entire-to-do-list-spend-next-week-in-bed-trying-to-recover-from-doing-too-much-629ff5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://bookarahma.files.wordpress.com/2016/05/chronic-illness-cat-meme-generator-get-sudden-burst-of-energy-accomplish-entire-to-do-list-spend-next-week-in-bed-trying-to-recover-from-doing-too-much-629ff5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay, so maybe this week was all my fault after all, but OMG, never, EVER forget to order your Lyrica. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I put in a request for my doctor to renew my Lyrica prescription on the 6th. Unfortunately, it didn't get to its destination, and by Sunday I was out of Lyrica. Worse, on Saturday I'd done quite a bit to help my husband and kids do some work in the dining room that had been put off for a while.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
By Monday I was in so much pain I couldn't even lay on my back anymore. I spent two days lying on my side as Dusty called the rheumatologist and got them to send the prescription to a different pharmacy, one closer to our home.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But hey, the dining room is looking much better.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I'm working today and hoping to make up some time by working on Saturday. It will keep my broken ass from doing anything stupid, at least. I think. Maybe.<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Yeah, I know. I hate that I have to miss it, but I promise you it's for a very good reason. You see, R, aka Eldest Son, graduates from high school the first day of the <a href="http://readerauthorgettogether.com/">Get-Together</a>.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/49584940.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/49584940.jpg" height="224" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He knows what college he wants to get into, and we think he's got a shot. He got a 1360 on his SAT's on his first try, and he's thinking of taking them again to see if he can do better. I don't know if I should encourage him or give him the "Are you fucking KIDDING ME?!?" look. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As a writer, I'm sorry I'm going to miss getting to see all of my friends, fellow authors and fans. As a parent, however...</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5FpK15v9SUM/VSxyj2IvPAI/AAAAAAAAAZE/UcZg-BHJJPE/w426-h284/15%2B-%2B1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5FpK15v9SUM/VSxyj2IvPAI/AAAAAAAAAZE/UcZg-BHJJPE/w426-h284/15%2B-%2B1" /></a></div>
<br />
What this means is I don't have to shop your favorite series out to another publisher. I can start working on them again soon, once submissions are open again. Since I have contracts with them already for three books (Electric Dreams, Hope in Darkness and Hide and Seek) I'll be working on those after I'm done Hour of the Wolf.<br />
<br />
For you guys, this means there was an unexpected delay in the books you want. I'm sorry for that, but it wasn't my call and I was pretty panicked over what might happen to some of my favorite series.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/8c/9b/e0/8c9be0222f9ade59af69ece1bc36c897.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/8c/9b/e0/8c9be0222f9ade59af69ece1bc36c897.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And now I don't have to panic anymore.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I do now. Mostly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://writeami.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/skeleton-computer-desk.jpg" /></div>
<br />
<br />
Yahoo! Sitebuilder has gotten clunky with age, making it more and more difficult to maintain my website. Add in the numerous tablets and cell phones people were viewing my website on, and I was getting numerous complaints about how it looked and how it scaled. So it was time for a change. And after doing some research, I decided to use <a href="http://www.wix.com/">Wix</a> to recreate it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.wix.com/"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/678484453187014656/JDqWiPiU.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My website is now brand-spanking new, tablet/phone friendly, and a lot more streamlined than it was before. Each series has its own page with the books in reading order; new release(s) and coming soon are on the front page, and my newsletter will now be through <a href="http://mailchimp.com/">Mailchimp</a> rather than the Yahoo! group I was using. (That, too, has been annoying me for a while, so it was time to change it as well.) My convention schedule is listed under my bio and my contact me page has the subscribe to my newsletter form as well as my PO box listed on it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mailchimp.com/"><img border="0" src="http://nowspeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/mailchimp-logo.png" height="193" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The only thing not moving is this blog, because a) it works just freakin' fine and b) the thought of moving eight years of archived blog posts gives me hives.<br />
<br />
Note that the excerpts for the books <i>aren't</i> there, nor are the free reads. I'm working on that part still, but it was time to get back to working on my new book before my brain exploded in a shower of HTML code. Give me time to work that stuff out. It will be there...eventually.Dana Marie Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12658055694533650313noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587550236172295383.post-39914521569433923082016-05-20T16:57:00.001-04:002016-05-20T16:57:42.595-04:00I Was Taken Down by a 2lb Weight<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Valeo-Neoprene-Hand-Weights/dp/B00CNT466K"><img border="0" src="http://youngwifesguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Hand-Weights1-700x486.jpg" height="222" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yes. Those. The pretty pinky-purple weights all the boys won't touch because they're gurrrly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got my ass kicked by <i>those</i>. I'm not even Super Grover. I'm just Grover.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/TKHl5j5nH_A/hqdefault.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/TKHl5j5nH_A/hqdefault.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It all started when I was working out. I knew I wasn't allowed to go above 2lb weights because of my arthritis, so I <i>swear</i> I was being good. But, sometimes that's just, er, not good enough. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images.fitnessmagazine.mdpcdn.com/sites/fitnessmagazine.com/files/styles/channel_masonry/public/800_woman-dumbbells-triceps.jpg?itok=FuI-nm1J" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images.fitnessmagazine.mdpcdn.com/sites/fitnessmagazine.com/files/styles/channel_masonry/public/800_woman-dumbbells-triceps.jpg?itok=FuI-nm1J" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
So one of the things I've been told to do is strengthen, well, everything, so I was using the weights that day on my upper arms. I did simple shoulder presses, the overhead press thingy above, tricep curls, bicep curls, you name it. But it was during the shoulder press that I first felt pain.<br />
<br />
I thought, hey, I haven't done this in a while, my muscles are so much oatmeal. Of course it hurts.<br />
<br />
Of course.<br />
<br />
Months later, I find that two pound weight has either a) calcified a tendon or b) moved my rotator cuff. Either way, it fuckin' <i>hurts.</i><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-style: italic; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://image.spreadshirtmedia.net/image-server/v1/compositions/121906210/views/1,width=280,height=280,appearanceId=461,version=1450275816.png/gorra-no-pain-no-gain_design.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://image.spreadshirtmedia.net/image-server/v1/compositions/121906210/views/1,width=280,height=280,appearanceId=461,version=1450275816.png/gorra-no-pain-no-gain_design.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-style: italic; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I'll be getting an x-ray to figure out what's wrong with my shoulder so I can go to physical therapy on top of the physical therapy (aquatic) that I'm supposed to set up for my arthritis but haven't had the time to do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Good news? Putting my hands in the "typing" position is A-OK by the doc, so the work moves on...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/17dbuj3c34064jpg/original.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/17dbuj3c34064jpg/original.jpg" height="221" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
OH! Before I forget, I'll be at the <a href="http://readerauthorgettogether.com/">Reader & Author Get Together</a> in Ohio June 9-12! See you there!</div>

I just finished the final rough draft of <i>More Than Words</i> and it's with my beta readers now. I've started work on <i>Hour of the Wolf</i>, the next Maggie's Grove series. And I'm in talks to start a new series at <a href="http://www.entangledpublishing.com/">Entangled Press</a>, but that's for after I finish <i>Hour of the Wolf</i>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/ridiciulously-photogenic-wolf-meme.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/ridiciulously-photogenic-wolf-meme.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
See, I'm still here, still standing, and still trying to figure out my life post-Samhain. Mostly. The weather in my area has been beastly, with rain, rain, and a little rain thrown in for good measure. It's slowed me down, but it hasn't stopped me. Not yet, anyway.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img.memecdn.com/rain-what-rain_c_3559937.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://img.memecdn.com/rain-what-rain_c_3559937.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I've also got plans for another series (I'm addicted, I tell you! Addicted!), but it's still way in the planning stage and I haven't gotten very far with it. As with everything else, I need to do some world-building to get everything straight as far as the paranormal rules go, and what I can and cannot do.<br />
<br />
As far as the rest of my books, I've gotten advice on what to do with my series that are completed and may not be wanted by a new publisher. I'm giving it some thought, discussing it with Dustin, and will let you know what my ultimate decision will be. The others are still kind of in limbo, and that's all I can say about it at the moment.<br />
<br />
So don't worry, guys. Everything will be just fine. Right?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/100303-limbo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.gamesetwatch.com/100303-limbo.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
Right.Dana Marie Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12658055694533650313noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587550236172295383.post-36186259263768682432016-03-01T08:13:00.000-05:002016-03-01T08:13:54.802-05:00A Note About The Long Goodbye<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">A few things to note before I get to the post: during Samhain's close, books <i>will be for sale!</i> So if there's a book you want, <b>go ahead and buy it</b>. Samhain will let everyone know when the books will no longer be available, and believe me, so will the authors. Also, the authors will continue to get paid, so don't worry that we're getting shafted. We're not. I would trumpet it if we were, believe me.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">Now to the post:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.samhainpublishing.com/"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/proxy/AVvXsEhXxMEKoz3PMmuD5UyvjIzrLus6e3yvd-NyMlPDDshgkKV6v3olJsY2vEDaA5qk2IxoKRC-oQeYZ0E0yvQ4v032YxY2mOTkyVncim9UryyiG83XLLH6jF_wuJJGTZ4w9ULxSwy3y7hpQQ_Y8ZP9fP79I1wSILMoCj7fEU9fvezb-bi7L0Cl1CMOAcsgEyZh5JNcArVb3GCW3xTaS7iGWFzPhm6WRGAqtA=s0-d-e1-ft" /></a></div>
<br />
All right. By this time everyone knows that <a href="http://www.samhainpublishing.com/">Samhain Publishing</a> will be closing its doors. And some of you are probably wondering why I haven't commented on it much.<br />
<br />
Shock. Sheer, unadulterated shock. I didn't see it coming, and part of me is still reeling.<br />
<br />
See, Samhain was my first publisher, the one who took a chance on me when everyone else said "no". So for that alone they had my loyalty.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://danamariebell.com/WallflowerExcerpt.html" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhawfPurwHEpg_JxgPUWMYSL0LHKlBEgZtp2QfoE8KYQxhFE8SN3QffWDSim3O7UAHbn0FkkCHNePI2JOCGuUi6G5eVxvobiopdLMQMrACSo4Zvm0yeUizZw6LjzON2Erp_jwxTK0v_Wag/s320/Wallflower72LGb.jpg" width="213" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dana's first-ever book.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Add in the wonderful editors I was always lucky to have, like <a href="http://nicemommy-evileditor.com/blog/">Angela James</a> and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/EditorTera">Tera Cuskaden</a>, the awesome artwork on my books, and the fact that problems, if any, were explained and fixed without leaving us, the authors, in the dark for very long, and you had a wonderful publisher to work for.<br />
<br />
So, yeah. I'm kind of in mourning for them. I can't even imagine what Christina Brashear, the owner, is going through. She put her heart and soul into her company, so to have it begin to die has to have her in mourning hell. I think all of us who worked for them will, to some extent or another, mourn the loss of Samhain.<br />
<br />
But I have no doubt Chris Brashear will come through this. She's strong, that lady. (Don't tell her I said this, but she kind of scares me a little. But in a good, "Where's my book?", hovering over me sort of way.) And she's making sure Samhain goes out as classy as possible, by taking care of her authors and making sure we're in the loop as she, and her company, go through this rough time.<br />
<br />
In the meantime, there's work to be done.<br />
<br />
For me, it means that I have a little time to decide what I'm going to do next. And I do have some ideas. The first ones involved a lot of chocolate and some sobbing, but I'm over that now. Mostly. The rest of my plans involve possibly finding an agent (I've never had one before), subbing elsewhere and, if necessary, looking into self-publishing. I'm not going to stop writing any time soon, so don't be afraid that your favorite stories are going to abruptly stop. They won't. They'll just have new homes.<br />
<br />
Needless to say, most of the <a href="http://danamariebell.com/ComingSoon.html">Coming Soon</a> stuff I posted isn't going to happen, not yet anyway. I'll be changing that by the end of the week, probably with more chocolate, sobbing and dog kisses to make me feel better (and steal my chocolate. Don't worry, I won't let her have any.)<br />
<br />
However, I <i>will </i>continue my series for <a href="http://www.carinapress.com/">Carina Press</a> over the next few months while I research my options and figure out where to go from here. That means I plan on finishing <i>More Than Words</i> and starting work on <i>The Hour of the Wolf</i>, the next Maggie's Grove book and the last of the inner dryad circle. (The one after that involves a bunny and a dragon. Heh.)<br />
<br />
It also means that covers <i>will</i> change, damn it. I'm sorry about that, but I don't own the artwork that's on my covers. I only own the content of the book. Wherever the books wind up, I'll do my best to make sure they get the best artwork I can.<br />

There's not much more to say, other than <i>It's all about the story.</i> And that story was wonderful while it lasted. Like all good stories there's an end, but hopefully a sequel will come down the pike. We all know how much I <i>love</i> a good sequel. So please remember: we, the authors, we're not down, and we're certainly not out.<br />
<br />
We're just preparing for the sequel.<br />

P.S.: Those who wrote to me to let me know they loved me, thank you. I love you guys to. You're the reason I keep going, even on the bad days. And knowing I've brightened someone's day makes mine, so thank you.Dana Marie Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12658055694533650313noreply@blogger.com7
